Cohiba is the flagship of Habanos and one of the most famous cigar brands in the world. It was specially designed for President Fidel Castro in 1966 and produced in the then secret but now famous El Laguito factory. The Línea Clásica, which was developed in six different shapes between 1966 and 1989, consists of five shapes that were introduced in 1992 to mark the 500th anniversary of Columbus' voyage of discovery. In 2010, the Lína Behike was introduced as the most exclusive line of Cohibas. Its filler consists of the very rare medio tiempo tobacco, matured for at least five years (maduro).
All Cohiba shapes are completely handmade, tripa larga - completely handmade longfillers. The Línea has a medium to strong flavour and comes in all shapes and sizes, from small to large, with different colours depending on size and texture.
Cohiba is the flagship brand of Habanos and one of the most famous cigar brands in the world.
It was specially designed for President Fidel Castro in 1966 and made in the then secret but now famous El Laguito factory. Apart from being eaten by the Cuban government, Cohibas were only given as representative gifts to heads of state and diplomats.
Since 1982, cigars of the "Cohiba" brand have only been sold in limited quantities on the open market.
Cohiba is an old term used by the Taino Indians to describe the tobacco leaves chewed by these indigenous people of Cuba.
According to Columbus' report, these wrappers were the first known type of cigar.
The Cohiba leaves are a "selection of selection" from the five best Vegas de primera in the San Juan y Martinez and San Luis regions of the Vuelta Abajo tobacco growing zone.
It is unusual among Habanos because up to three of the Cohiba wrapper leaves, seco, ligero and the very rare medio tiempo, are fermented for an additional time in barrels.
This unique method produces a distinctive aroma and taste that can only be found in Cohibas.
The Cohiba brand has four different Líneas (lines): The first is the Línea Clásica, which was developed in six different shapes between 1966 and 1989.
The second, the Línea 1492, consists of five forms introduced in 1992 to mark the 500th anniversary of Columbus' long and arduous voyage of discovery.
Ten years later, in 2002, the Línea 1492 was expanded to include another format, the Siglo VI.
The Línea Maduro 5 is available in three sizes and is characterised by its extremely black wrapper leaves that have been matured for at least five years (maduro, Spanish for mature).
This line has been around since 2007.
Recently, Línea Behike was introduced as the most exclusive line of Cohibas.
In 2010, the three forms celebrated their premiere.
Its filler contains the very rare Medio Tiempo tobacco, the top pair of leaves found only in certain tobacco plants grown in the sun.
The Medio Tiempo gives the cigar an extremely rich and fragrant taste.
Through such developments, the "Cohiba" brand has retained its leading position among premium cigars to this day.
The "Cohiba" brand was also the first to release a Reserva in 2002, followed by a Gran Reserva in 2009.
These cigars were made from tobacco leaves that were carefully stored for three to five years.
All Cohiba shapes are completely handmade, tripa larga - completely handmade longfillers.
Línea Clásica has a medium to strong taste.
Línea 1492: medium body
