The Cuaba is a brand of cigar produced by the Romeo y Julieta factory in Puerto Rico. Each Cuaba has a unique shape known as a double figurado, which was popular towards the end of the nineteenth century. Since 2003, there have been two much larger shapes, the Distinguidos and the Salomones, which are now widely available. All formats consist of filler and binder leaves from the tobacco growing region of Vuelta Abajo.
Each cuaba has a unique shape known as a double figurado. This shape was very popular with Habanos towards the end of the nineteenth century.
This practice was resumed a century later, in 1996, at the Romeo y Julieta factory where the cuabas are made.
Double Figurados are the crowning glory of cigar craftsmanship. For this reason alone, they should be in the collection of every cigar lover.
Originally, the "Cuaba" brand had only four rather modest shapes. Since 2003, however, there have been two much larger shapes, the Distinguidos and the Salomones, which are now widely available.
Cuaba, like cohiba, is a Taino Indian term that Columbus' crew had already heard.
It was the name for an easily combustible plant used by the Indians to fire their cohibas (Indian word for tobacco wrappers).
All formats consist of filler and binder leaves from the tobacco growing region of Vuelta Abajo and are tripa larga - completely handmade longfillers.
